Chief Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction

With offices in Tucson and Sierra Vista and more than 52 years of expertise building projects for both public and private clients, we are a heavy civil construction company that is entirely owned by its employees. Our experience ranges from new construction, rebuilding existing ones, and upgrading booster stations and water distribution systems. In addition to new sewer and pump station construction, we also carry out general site development, roadway excavation, site grading, asphalt paving, site & structural concrete, bridge building, street lighting, intersection improvements, traffic signalization, infrastructure development, landscape improvement & irrigation, sanitary sewer conveyance system modifications, pump station repairs & rehabilitation, utility hole rehabilitation-reconstruction, emergency repairs, and more.

Position Overview
The Chief Estimator will lead the estimating department, overseeing all aspects of project estimations for heavy civil construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring accurate and competitive bids that align with the company's strategic goals and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the estimating team to develop accurate and timely cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects.
• Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to determine project scope and requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead for construction projects involving transportation, roadway, asphalt, concrete, mining, utilities, and earthwork.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure alignment on project objectives and expectations.
• Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations to mitigate potential cost issues during project execution.
• Stay updated on industry trends, labor rates, and material costs to inform estimating practices.
• Participate in project bid meetings and present estimates to clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating for heavy civil construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and costs associated with highway, roadway, mining, and/or utility projects.
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with a detail-oriented mindset.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to manage a team effectively.
